{"id":96378,"date":"2024-05-23T13:37:32","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T13:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=96378"},"modified":"2024-05-23T13:37:32","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T13:37:32","slug":"sterling-opts-for-larger-select-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2024\/05\/23\/sterling-opts-for-larger-select-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Sterling opts for larger Select Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><em>By Ken Cleveland<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Landmark Correspondent<\/em><\/div>\n<p>STERLING \u2014 While deciding a single race, voters also had to weigh in on whether they wanted to expand the Select Board from three to five members.<\/p>\n<p>At the polls May 13, they decided to go for the larger board by a 648 to 440 margin, confirming the 2022 town meeting vote to request the state Legislature allow the expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The Select Board race this year, with one of the board\u2019s three seats on the ballot, was a non-contest, with Maureen Cranson running unopposed, garnering 798 votes.<\/p>\n<p>A contest did exist, however, for two seats on the Board of Library Trustees, with Amanda Sayut getting 756 votes and Audrey Cutler, 610 votes, both winning, and Donald Carter III pulling in 364 votes.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the ballot were uncontested positions: Board of Assessors, Donlin Murray, 964 votes; two seats on the Board of Health, Richard Lane, 938 votes, and Gail Hassett, 939 votes; Department of Public Works Board, Andrew Parker, 892 votes; Town Moderator, Richard Lane, 947 votes; Planning Board, Eric Newman, 715 votes; Sterling Municipal Light Board, Eric Darlington, 952 votes; and Wachusett Regional School District Committee, Melissa Wallace, 890 votes.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 1,139 voters, out of the 6,582 registered voters, turned out, according to the official results, a turnout of 17%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ken Cleveland Landmark Correspondent STERLING \u2014 While deciding a single race, voters also had to weigh in on whether they wanted to expand the Select Board from three to five members.
