Like many people, Shari Daley Watson and Tina Artuso were “very bored during COVID and started watching YouTube videos,” Watson said, adding they “saw a site about resin and loved all the things you can make.”<\/p>\n

That ended up with the two making Resin and Eco Resin one-of-a-kind pieces of art and knickknacks.<\/p>\n

Then they started The Crafty Sistas’ to bring their creations to markets.<\/p>\n

Watson, of Holden, and Artuso, of Cherry Valley, have been making items for about 18 months.<\/p>\n

“It started as a hobby,” Watson said, and then “escalated to making presents for family, and then people started asking us to make particular pieces with certain colors.”<\/p>\n

Much of the Crafty Sistas’ work is collaborative.<\/p>\n

“Most of the time we work together, and then sometimes one of us gets an idea and has to try to make it right away to see how it comes out. Then we may adjust it, or it’s perfect and we leave it alone.”<\/p>\n

Watson said, “We get a lot of basic ideas from YouTube, and we expand on those ideas.<\/p>\n

“We go to a lot of craft stores and find items on sale and think ‘what could we do with these?’ A lot of our inlays in our resin just come from things we thought ‘we can use that for something.’<\/p>\n

“We will do commission pieces on request, certain colors and inlays. All of our pieces are one-of-a-kind pieces, as resin has a mind of its own,” Watson said.<\/p>\n

Most enjoyable are “Those pieces where your heart just beats uncontrollably: Should I add this color, mix four colors, add inlays, how many do we use? Those OMG pieces,” Watson said.<\/p>\n

“The excitement and satisfaction when they are done just so warms my heart. We recently made three 20-inch turntables, absolutely gorgeous. We even had a person ask us to do a cosmic atmosphere with inlays of planets throughout. We are looking forward to making that one.”<\/p>\n

The medium can be challenging.<\/p>\n

“Resin has a mind of its own, so you are on pins and needles just waiting to see it after you demold it. Plus, you need to be very cautious, wearing gloves and a respirator mask that sometimes hinder your ability to see certain things with the resin.”<\/p>\n

They mostly sell to friends, family and co-workers, they said, but have been selling to others.<\/p>\n

“This is our second year at the Sterling Street Market, and we are planning on starting a Crafty Sistas’ Facebook page, so look for it soon,” Watson said.<\/p>\n

As they set up at the market on a recent Saturday, she said “Response has been pretty good.<\/p>\n

“It makes us feel good when people are actually shocked that the items are handmade. A customer from last year stopped by to tell us this year that the ‘lucky’ pocket buddy she bought last year has given her great luck when she uses it to scratch her lottery tickets. We just both loved that,” Watson said.<\/p>\n

“We just love to get together and do crafts together. It gives us a sense of satisfaction to know we can make something so beautiful.<\/p>\n

“Remember, our items are one of a kind,” Watson said. “Your coaster set may look exactly the same, but each coaster had a mind of their own.”<\/p>\n

It is a hobby that has grown and been shared.<\/p>\n

“We started this as a hobby; it will always be a hobby. But we are hoping to make it a hobby we can make a little cash with to spoil our grandchildren and go on a little vacation.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
