PAXTON \u2014 There may not be any contests for town boards, but the annual town election has one item of interest: The override.<\/p>\n

The proposed $1,440,000 Proposition 2\u00bd override needs approval at the annual town meeting May 6, but it also must garner a majority of the votes on the election ballot.<\/p>\n

The override is being sought to fund the coming year\u2019s budget; failure would require a second town meeting to approve a budget that does not use the funds. That budget includes a variety of cuts affecting most town departments, except the schools. The schools have a separate budget at town meeting that is not dependent upon the override passing.<\/p>\n

The positions to be filled at the election and those on the ballot are:<\/p>\n

Select Board, one three-year seat, incumbent Julia Pingitore;<\/p>\n

Board of Assessors, one three-year seat, incumbent Deirdre Malone;<\/p>\n

Board of Health, one three-year seat, incumbent Thomas Carroll;<\/p>\n

Cemetery Commission, one three-year seat, incumbent Brian Brosnihan;<\/p>\n

Library Trustees, two three-year seats, incumbents Christopher Isperduli and Catherine McCourt;<\/p>\n

Library Trustee, one two-year seat, Rachel Stone;<\/p>\n

Municipal Light Board, one three-year seat, Yvette Orell;<\/p>\n

Planning Board, one five-year seat, David Bloom;<\/p>\n

Recreation Commission, two three-year seats, incumbent Heather Larson and R. Dustin Hill.<\/p>\n

The annual town election is scheduled for May 13, with voting from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Paxton Center School gymnasium.<\/p>\n

The last day to register to vote for the election is Friday, May 3.<\/p>\n

There is no in-person early voting for the annual town election. However, voters can vote early by mail. The last day to request a vote-by-mail for the annual town election is Monday, May 6, by 5 p.m. Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. May 13 to be counted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
