HOLDEN \u2014 Nadia Kaminski is an election officer for the town after a unanimous vote by the Select Board.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke with Nadia briefly before the meeting and asked if she would like to address the board,\u201d Chair Stephanie Mulroy said at the April 22 meeting. \u201cShe shook her head \u2018no.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Mulroy noted Kaminski\u2019s role at the schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve known Nadia for almost a dozen years, as our kids grew up together at Mayo School. She is one of the greatest parent volunteers I\u2019ve seen. While most of us were busy socializing with other moms, she was always very focused on academics and what the kids were doing, and how they were getting involved in whatever field trip or activity they were doing at school,\u201d Mulroy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI regret I wasn\u2019t here to speak on your behalf at the last meeting, Ms. Kaminski,\u201d Mulroy said. She was not at the board meeting in which Kaminski was not appointed on the basis of a tie vote with four selectmen present and questions about why the board was not interviewing the candidate, something it normally does not do.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was overseas with my kids doing a sort of learning field trip about World War II and cold war history. It\u2019s a bit ironic there was a snafu with you.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so proud to know both you and your husband as immigrants to this country from a communist country, who came here legally, did the work and passed the test to become a citizen and voter here in Massachusetts,\u201d Mulroy said. \u201cI regret things went the way they did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Member Anthony Renzoni apologized to Kaminski.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are the most talked about election worker appointment since my time on the board. It was very unusual not to approve a recommendation from one of the town committees,\u201d Renzoni said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI asked you to please reconsider and come to the next meeting. I will proudly move to appoint Nadia Kaminski,\u201d Renzoni said, to a term to run until Aug. 31, 2024. The motion was seconded by both Thomas Curran, who had voted against Kaminksi initially, and by member Richard Bates, who, along with Renzoni, had voted to appoint Kaminski in the first meeting. Member Geri Herlihy was not present at the meeting.<\/p>\n

The board also voted to reappoint Margaret Daley to the Board of Registrars for a term to expire March 31, 2027, and appoint Laurel Barraco to the Conservation Commission for a term to run to April 22, 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
