{"id":96221,"date":"2024-05-02T13:58:06","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T13:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=96221"},"modified":"2024-05-02T13:58:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T13:58:06","slug":"rutland-election-features-select-board-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2024\/05\/02\/rutland-election-features-select-board-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Rutland election features Select Board race"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><em>By Ken Cleveland<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Landmark Correspondent<\/em><\/div>\n<p>RUTLAND \u2014 A race for two seats on the Select Board gives voters options when they vote in the annual town election, as well as a decision on whether they want to buy a firetruck using a debt exclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Seeking the three-year seats on the Select Board are Harry Sechman, Leah Whiteman, Ralph Caloiaro Jr. and Leroy Clark.<\/p>\n<p>Sechman and Whiteman are incumbents; Clark is a former member of the board.<\/p>\n<p>The single three-year seat on the Wachusett Regional School District Committee is being sought by incumbent Brett Beardmore and challenger Richard Randall.<\/p>\n<p>Other positions are uncontested, but voters will consider a debt exclusion to fund a new ladder firetruck. The amount and appropriations approval for that would be done at the annual town meeting but the ballot vote is required as well under the Proposition 2\u00bd tax-limiting law.<\/p>\n<p>Uncontested positions are: Town moderator for three years, incumbent Randy Jordan; town clerk for three years, incumbent Anita Carlson; assessor for three years, Jeffrey R. Gibbs; Board of Health for three years, Scott Gilroy; Planning Board for five years, Britton Bradford; a second Planning Board seat to fill the remaining two years of a position has no candidate; Library Trustees, two seats for three years, Jean Grant and Richard Lopez; Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School District Committee for a three-year seat, Ann Marie Pantos.<\/p>\n<p>A Candidates Night was slated for April 30 in the Rutland Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>The polls are open May 13 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for precincts 1 and 3 at Naquag Elementary School, 285 Main St.; and for Precinct 2 at the Rutland Public Library, lower level, 280 Main St.<\/p>\n<p>All registered voters received a vote-by-mail postcard sent out by the state. The deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is Monday, May 6, at 5 p.m. For a vote-by-mail application, see the town clerk\u2019s website.
