{"id":47249,"date":"2024-02-01T14:40:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T14:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=47249"},"modified":"2024-02-01T14:40:11","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T14:40:11","slug":"sfd-fundraiser-benefits-cancer-support-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2024\/02\/01\/sfd-fundraiser-benefits-cancer-support-center\/","title":{"rendered":"SFD fundraiser benefits cancer support center"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><em>By Danielle Ray<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Landmark Correspondent<\/em><\/div>\n<p>STERLING \u2014 Members of the Sterling Fire Department paid a visit to The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden Cancer Support Center last month to present a $2,000 donation to the nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n<p>The donation made Dec. 18 is a result of the SFD\u2019s seventh year of holding a Breast Cancer Awareness Month T-shirt fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile having a breast cancer T-shirt fundraiser is very popular at fire departments all around the country, donating our funds to the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden is extra special to us because family members of three of our fire department members received the fantastic services that they offer,\u201d said SFD firefighter\/paramedic Erin Cullinane, who spearheaded the effort.<\/p>\n<p>The Healing Garden provides a variety of complementary therapeutic services that address the side effects of cancer and its treatment, all at a beautiful facility in Harvard set on 8 acres of quiet woodlands and lovely gardens.<\/p>\n<p>SFD\u2019s own Lt. Tom Kokernak created this year\u2019s design, which featured the words \u201cFighting For a Cure\u201d and a pink breast cancer awareness ribbon made out of fire hose wrapped around the F in SFD. Cullinane said Ricky\u2019s Sales &amp; Service out of Leominster helped bring the design to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were happy to have a local, family-owned business make our shirts for the second year in a row,\u201d Cullinane said of the collaboration. \u201cRicki-Ann created a website that allowed our community members to easily buy shirts and donate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sales of the T-shirts began mid-September and continued through the last day of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cullinane said she is \u201cvery happy with the results this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal was to raise $2,000, and we did just that!
