He built three birdhouses and two planter boxes, while refurbishing two existing planter boxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Colin Sweet, 17, of Troop 189, has been a Scout for about a dozen years. He said he cleaned up around some of the rock beds in front of the senior center and worked on mulch beds around six trees behind the center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Jacob Thorogood, 18, of Troop 189, who has been a Scout since he was 7, worked on mulch around six trees in front of the center, installing edging around them to protect them, especially during mowing and other maintenance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">The work around the senior center was done mainly using donations and a pair of GoFundMe drives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">\u201cThank you for the effort to beautify the senior center, something they have wanted to do for a few years,\u201d Select Board Chair Maureen Cranson said to the young men.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Three other Scouts did work around town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Corbin Bennett, who could not attend the meeting, helped to transform the historic Town Pound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Adam Orsini, of Troop 1, spruced up and painted six benches at the lake, work he told the Select Board his parents funded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">Charles Smith, of Troop 1, refurbished the gazebo at Memorial Park, using mostly supplies already on hand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">\u201cThat is the bane of the town,\u201d Cranson said about the gazebo, since it is \u201calways being damaged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;font-style: normal;font-weight: 400;letter-spacing: normal;text-align: start;text-indent: 0px;text-transform: none\">\u201cDon\u2019t stop volunteering,\u201d Smith told the Scouts. \u201cThis town is driven by volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jan Gottesman Item Editor STERLING \u2013 Select Board member David Smith said the town works on volunteerism \u2026 and they are starting early.
