Spearheaded by the LRPHC, this effort aims to gather data from a diverse cross-section of our population, including individuals, school-age children, first responders, and senior citizens.

Christopher Wilson, regional epidemiologist for the LRPHC, emphasized the significance of these assessments, stating, “These assessments give us a unique look into the greatest health needs of a community by gathering data from residents and local key stakeholders. Data is typically gathered through surveys, interviews with health care providers, focus groups, and community meetings. Once the data collection phase has been completed and all analyses have been performed to determine the top health concerns, we can then identify or create strategies and resources to address these concerns.”

Miriam Nyante, shared services coordinator, who is actively involved in this assessment, added, “Once we have a sufficient amount of data, we can apply for grants that address those issues that are identified. For example, if the community identifies children vaping as a health concern, we can seek grants specifically tied to vaping cessation and use the data we’ve gathered to justify the need for a program in the community.”

Michael Mazloff, chairperson of the Holden Board of Health, reflected on the importance of the upcoming assessment, saying, “The last Community Health Overview that was done for Holden was in 2018 as part of the Greater Worcester Community Health Assessment. Holden was included with the City of Worcester and four other adjacent towns. Clearly, a lot has changed since 2018, and it will be really helpful to get a more focused analysis of our specific community health needs.”

Participation in the CHA is easy, accessible and anonymous. Residents are encouraged to complete the brief surveys online at https://tinyurl.com/3txz5usc or http://lrphc.net.

Additionally, physical copies of the survey can be filled out in person at various locations, including Town Hall at 1204 Main St., Gale Public Library, and the Holden Senior Center.

Your input matters, and together, we can shape a healthier future for our community. Be a part of this essential effort to address our health needs and make Holden an even better place to live.

For more information or inquiries, contact Christopher Wilson, regional epidemiologist, at 508-892-7008 or wilsonc@leicesterma.org.

By Holden Board of Health HOLDEN — The Holden Board of Health, in collaboration with the Leicester Regional Public Health Coalition, is reaching out to the residents of Holden for their valuable input on a vital initiative, the Community Health Assessment Survey.
