But he will have a lot of training before he is fully certified.

“Cruiser will start his training on Oct. 7 with The Right Paw. He will be in training for approximately two years to become fully certified as a Therapy Dog. While training, he will be available to go to the schools, senior center, community events, and any other incident in need of his services. I will be taking him around town to meet the community as often as possible, or by request,” Doyle said.

Cruiser will be staying with Doyle’s family when he is not working.

“It has been like having a new baby in the house, needing to constantly keep an eye on him. I had met him a few times prior to taking him home, but the training will be important once we start that,” she said.

Doyle had worked on the plans for the therapy dog for a while.

“Earlier this year I presented the program to Chief Paul Patriarca, and we spoke about how it would benefit our police department and the community. I had been researching and looking into dogs, talking with breeders, as well as other dog handlers at other police departments for guidance. After compiling information about dogs, and the program, Chief and I presented it to the Select Board, (and it) was approved.”

The program will be completely funded by donations.

“We have had an amazing outpouring of support, which I am so thankful to our community and surrounding communities for,” Doyle said.

“We will be having a raffle at the Partner with Princeton (Touch a Truck) event on Sept. 30 to support the program. The funds that are raised from donations will be used for vet bills, food, equipment needed for training and to perform his duties.”

Doyle said she will be putting together other programs, and opportunities to purchase different items to benefit the program.

“People are invited to the Partner with Princeton event to meet Cruiser as well as a few other local comfort dogs.”

Raffle tickets can be purchased to win donated items.
