{"id":46613,"date":"2023-09-21T16:29:32","date_gmt":"2023-09-21T16:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=46613"},"modified":"2023-09-21T16:29:32","modified_gmt":"2023-09-21T16:29:32","slug":"als-candy-shoppe-is-an-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2023\/09\/21\/als-candy-shoppe-is-an-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Al&#039;s Candy Shoppe is &#039;an experience&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><em>By Danielle Ray<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Landmark Correspondent<\/em><\/div>\n<p>HOLDEN \u2014 There\u2019s some sweet sentiment behind the name of Al\u2019s Candy Shoppe, the Main Street business launched by the McGreevy family in July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already have stores named to honor some members of our family that have passed \u2014 my grandmother Elizabeth Ann, our barber shop McGreevy&#8217;s \u2014 so we decided to name the candy shop after Ryan\u2019s dad, Al McGreevy,\u201d Jaclyn McGreevey shared.<\/p>\n<p>She and her husband Ryan, who works next door to the candy shop at his barber shop, grew up in town and met at Wachusett Regional High School. They are raising their three boys \u2014 15-year-old Aiden who works at the candy shop, Mason, 10, and Gavin, 8 \u2014 here because they \u201clove the Wachusett community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jaclyn said they decided as a family to open Al\u2019s this summer, and that \u201conce we gave it a go, we became more invested in it than we could have ever imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did our research and traveled to visit so many other candy shops around New England,\u201d she said. \u201cMy family knows anytime there is a candy store, we are stopping, because we are always looking for different ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the shop offers a wide variety of goodies, from nostalgic candy to candy made popular through social media, to milk free, gluten free, and peanut free options, as well as popular and unique drinks such as bacon soda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aren\u2019t just a candy store; we are an experience. We wanted this to be an experience for everyone, somewhere fun the kids can go, have a seat outside and eat candy,\u201d Jaclyn said. \u201cThe kids love to come in and do candy reviews for us to add to our social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their most popular option is the by-the-pound candy bar, where customers can fill a bag with mixed candy and weigh it.
