{"id":44884,"date":"2023-07-13T10:42:34","date_gmt":"2023-07-13T14:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=44884"},"modified":"2023-07-13T10:42:34","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T14:42:34","slug":"campus-news-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2023\/07\/13\/campus-news-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Campus news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nichols College appoints Wojnar director of public safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DUDLEY \u2014 Nichols College appointed Steve Wojnar director of public safety, effective June 13.<\/p>\n<p>Wojnar most recently served as police chief of the Dudley Police Department, a position in which he served for 20 years before retiring in 2023. He started his 34-year career on the force as a reserve police officer in the Dudley Police Department, working his way up through the ranks.<\/p>\n<p>As chief, he served as president of the Central Mass. Chiefs of Police, as a member of the executive planning committee for the National Center for Missing &amp; Exploited Children, and as president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association. He served on many local boards\/committees and was active in local schools, earning the nickname &#8220;Officer Friendly&#8221; for his work in promoting positive relationships between police and students. He has served as an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice Program at Nichols College since 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Steve is an impressively qualified law enforcement leader and trusted community member. I thank him for his service, and I am thrilled that he is serving the Nichols campus in this new capacity,&#8221; said college president Glenn M. Sulmasy. &#8220;His extensive experience and talents will surely benefit Nichols College, our public safety program and our surrounding localities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As director of public safety, Wojnar will lead the college&#8217;s public safety and emergency management efforts, which includes a comprehensive public safety program encompassing public safety, security, risk management, fire and life safety, physical security and access control, emergency communications and emergency management.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is an exciting opportunity to become the director of public safety at Nichols College. With my work in the community for over 34 years, including 20 as the Dudley police chief, I have a sound understanding of the community and the school,&#8221; Wojnar said. &#8220;I look forward to working with everyone to provide quality service to Nichols College and working with the town of Dudley in any way needed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Univ. of Tampa graduate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 <strong>Allison Clark<\/strong> of Rutland graduated from The University of Tampa on Saturday, May 6. Clark graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in advertising and public relations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgia Tech graduate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ATLANTA \u2014 <strong>Ying Li<\/strong> of Holden has earned a B.S. in biology with highest honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Li was among more than 5,300 undergraduate and graduate students to be presented Georgia Tech degrees during the Institute&#8217;s 264th Commencement exercises May 5-6 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elms College dean&#8217;s list <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CHICOPEE \u2014 <strong>Seamus Higgins<\/strong> of Rutland was named to the College of Our Lady of the Elms spring 2023 dean&#8217;s list. Higgins was among more than 400 students named to the spring 2023 dean&#8217;s list.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, a full-time student must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher, without incompletes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quinnipiac Univ. dean&#8217;s list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HAMDEN, Conn. \u2014 The following local students were named to the dean&#8217;s list for the spring 2023 semester at Quinnipiac University: <strong>Cailan Bennett<\/strong>* and <strong>Abigail Pousland<\/strong>* of Holden; <strong>Abbygail Simes<\/strong> of Rutland; and <strong>Loki Simeon<\/strong> of Sterling.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for the dean&#8217;s list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than C. Full-time students must complete at least 14 credits in a semester, with at least 12 credits that have been graded on a letter grade basis to be eligible. Part-time students must complete at least six credits during a semester. Names followed by an asterisk denote with honors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Univ. of Tampa dean&#8217;s list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 The University of Tampa has honored 2,007 students who were named to the dean&#8217;s list for the spring 2023 semester. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the dean&#8217;s list.<\/p>\n<p>The following local students were named to the dean&#8217;s list: <strong>Celia Callahan<\/strong> of Holden, allied health major; <strong>Declan Cady<\/strong> of Rutland, cybersecurity major; and <strong>Allison Clark<\/strong> of Rutland, advertising and public relations major.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emerson College dean&#8217;s list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BOSTON \u2014 <strong>Julia Cross<\/strong> of Paxton was named to the dean&#8217;s list for the spring semester at Emerson College. Cross is majoring in media arts production and is a member of Emerson College&#8217;s class of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The requirement to make dean&#8217;s list at Emerson is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worcester State dean&#8217;s list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WORCESTER \u2014 The following local students have been named to Worcester State University dean&#8217;s list for spring 2023. Dean&#8217;s list honors are awarded to matriculated undergraduate students who have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher.
