I feel that the event was a great success,” said Wachusett area Rotary Club member and past president Desiree Leader, who helped to organize the fete. “We had a lot of breweries, and plenty of wine as well. It was a nice chance to get people of all ages together to enjoy a fun event at a local farm. We were able to let people know about some of the best breweries in the area, and they got a chance to taste their wares and see what is so special about each of them.”

Proceeds from the event will be used for the various community outreach programs and activities of the Rotary Club, such as Coats for Kids, where they provide new coats for children who are food pantry recipients, and the scholarship program.

“Just this past Friday we awarded gifts to three local high school seniors to help with their college expenses,” Leader said of the scholarships. “A new project we are in the middle of is our pollinator garden. We planted a garden that has plants chosen to specifically attract bees to help with their population.”

Rotary International is a nonprofit service organization whose 1.2 million volunteer leaders from more than 200 countries share a passion for community service and humanitarian efforts. The Wachusett area Rotary Club chapter currently has 30 members, most of whom are from the towns they serve: Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston.

Leader was one of several Rotarians present at the tasting. She was joined by club president Marisol Dittami; treasurer Helena Donlevy; sargeant at arms Savvas Fotiadis, the owner of The Manor in West Boylston where the club meets every Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. sharp; membership chair Richard Traina; board member Barry Tupper; past president Matt Smith; and members Kim Cary and Roberta Duke.

The club’s next event is the annual golf tournament on Sept. 18 at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, its main fundraiser of the year. The club is always looking for businesses to sponsor the event as well as golfers; those interested can email WARotaryClub@ gmail for more information and to register.

RUTLAND — Despite the cold, drizzly weather, dozens gathered at Lilac Hedge Farm on June 3 for a beer and wine tasting hosted by the Wachusett Area Rotary Club.
