WEST BOYLSTON \u2013 Beatrice Serewicz is a veteran on Tedy\u2019s Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sterling native and current Holden resident had her first fundraiser and marathon training for Tedy\u2019s Team in 2005. And March 21, she has another fundraiser, this time for her 2023 run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke in February 2005 at the age of 31, just weeks after winning his third Super Bowl with the New England Patriots and days after returning from playing in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. As he recovered, Tedy and his wife, Heidi, dedicated themselves to raising awareness of stroke, being advocates, and inspiring stroke survivors across Massachusetts, New England and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tedy\u2019s Team is a nonprofit that raises money and awareness for stroke and heart disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy mother and I decided to run for my aunt who suffered complications from strokes,\u201d Serewicz said about her 2005 effort. \u201cI then trained and fundraised for Tedy\u2019s Team in 2014. And now again 2023. I run for my aunt again, and for my grandfather who suffered multiple heart complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough my Facebook fundraiser page, I learned of so many friends that have loved ones who have suffered and survived strokes, and those who have lost loved ones to stroke and heart disease. I\u2019ve started a list of names that I will write on my bib and shirt. I run for all of them,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her personal goal this year is $6,000 and she has raised about a third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have organized a ticketed event to help me raise the rest of my goal. My friend is the owner of an entertainment business, Central MA Productions, and he will be running a DJ Trivia game,\u201d she said. The event on March 21will be held at The Mill 185 in West Boylston and dinner will be served to those who attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have received a number of donation items from local businesses for a silent auction and two signed Tedy Bruschi memorabilia to auction as well,\u201d Serewicz added. \u201cThe funds raised will go towards research and awareness, but also to Tedy\u2019s new recovery facility at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Tedy\u2019s Team Center of Excellence in Stroke Recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serewicz works part time for the Sterling Police Department as a 911 medical emergency dispatcher, a role she has had for 16 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a member of Tedy\u2019s Team, she was invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony on March 2 for the new facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis facility is free to stroke survivors until the end of their personal recovery journey. I learned that night that their medical team uses a groundbreaking state-of-the-art medical treatment that could take years to get anywhere else,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd continuous support to aid in research for better, faster treatment and prevention options. It was truly an honor to be present and learn from this team of medical professionals involved in Tedy\u2019s Team at the recovery center and the stories behind everyone\u2019s personal involvement. It\u2019s amazing to think of all the lives that will benefit from this new facility and I am so proud to be part of this team, no matter how small my involvement may be.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
