{"id":42795,"date":"2023-03-09T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=42795"},"modified":"2023-03-09T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T11:00:00","slug":"third-select-board-seat-on-ballot-in-rutland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2023\/03\/09\/third-select-board-seat-on-ballot-in-rutland\/","title":{"rendered":"Third Select Board seat on ballot in Rutland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\">By Ken Cleveland <i>Landmark Correspondent<\/i><\/div>\n<p>RUTLAND \u2014 A third Select Board seat has been added to Rutland\u2019s annual town election ballot after a member submitted their resignation.<\/p>\n<p>The board accepted the resignation of Chair Carol Benoit at its March 1 meeting, conducted by Zoom. The resignation will be effective May 8, 2023. The board voted March 1 to place an additional one-year seat on the May 8 ballot to fill the remainder of the vacated term, Town Clerk Anita Carlson said.<\/p>\n<p>The term for the seat will run for one year, the time remaining on Benoit\u2019s term, which expires in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>With the resignation effective May 8, the day of the election, and accepted by the board and town clerk, the position can appear on the ballot, resulting in no gap with a vacant seat on the board.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination papers for the new seat and all other seats appearing on the ballot are available in the town clerk\u2019s office at 250 Main St. The last day to pull nomination papers is Thursday, March 16, and papers with signatures must be returned by Monday, March 20, Carlson said.<\/p>\n<p>The clerk\u2019s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. If a prospective candidate is not able to come into the office during those hours, they can contact the clerk\u2019s office to make other arrangements. Email anitacarlson@ mailto:son@townofrutland.org townofrutland.org or call 508-886-4100, ext. 3009.<\/p>\n<p>The following town positions will be filled at the annual town election to be held Monday, May 8: Moderator for one year, currently held by Randy Jordan; Select Board, two for three years, currently held by Leroy Clark and Lyndon Nichols; Select Board for one year to fill remainder of term currently held by Carol Benoit, who is resigning effective the day of the election; Board of Assessors one for three years, currently held by Arthur Lincoln; Board of Health one for three years, currently held by Elliot Nadeau Jr.; Planning Board one for five years, currently held by Marilyn Sidoti; Library Board of Trustees, two for three years, currently held by Tressa Santillo and William Brazeau.<\/p>\n<p>This is an off year for both the Wachusett Regional and Bay Path School committees, so no candidates will appear on the ballot this year, Carlson said.<\/p>\n<p>When the final ballot list is set, voters will be able to vote in person May 8 or request a mailin ballot; voters can also request a mail-in ballot using a form on the town clerk\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>More information is available on the Town Website under News and on the Town Clerk Department page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> RUTLAND \u2014 A third Select Board seat has been added to Rutland\u2019s annual town election ballot after a member submitted their resignation.
