{"id":41522,"date":"2022-12-01T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=41522"},"modified":"2022-12-01T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T11:00:00","slug":"rink-donated-in-memory-of-johansen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2022\/12\/01\/rink-donated-in-memory-of-johansen\/","title":{"rendered":"Rink donated in memory of Johansen"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><b>By Ken Cleveland <\/b><br \/>\n        <i>Landmark Correspondent<\/i><\/div>\n<p>HOLDEN \u2013 Lace up the skates, the ice skating rink is coming back.<\/p>\n<p>There was \u201cscuttlebutt people would like to have the skating rink returned to its former glory,\u201d Town Manager Peter Lukes told the Select Board at its most recent meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s skaters may see a prefabricated rink, which can be used over and over again, Lukes said, thanks to the donation of $5,000 by Robert Jacobson.<\/p>\n<p>It was to be set up for the winter months, a positive winter activity to look forward to even if there is also snow shoveling to come.<\/p>\n<p>The rink is being donated in the name of someone Holden had known for years as Mr. Holden, and whose Christmas visage brought smiles to young and old: Eric Johansen.<\/p>\n<p>His family had maintained the rink for many years, Lukes noted.<\/p>\n<p>\n        <b>Police accreditation<\/b>\n      <\/p>\n<p>Following efforts to achieve the highest standard for the police department, officers were able to note that they had received full accreditation, awarded to few departments in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey (the Holden Police Department) are one of only four other towns in the Commonwealth that have achieved this high honor,\u201d Lukes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a tremendous amount of work,\u201d he said. \u201cIt raises the level of professionalism for the Holden police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very stressful to go through this process; it\u2019s essentially an audit,\u201d Police Chief Timothy Sherblom said. \u201cWe volunteered to go through this process and have them tell us what we were doing right and wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Holden department is the only one in Central Massachusetts to have achieved full accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost police departments haven\u2019t even started the process of self assessment and fewer have gotten certified and fewer accredited,\u201d Sherblom said. \u201cWe\u2019re very proud of it,\u201d a process that followed 18 years in which the department had been certified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> HOLDEN \u2013 Lace up the skates, the ice skating rink is coming back.
