I am enjoying working really hard at the thing I love to do most, which is sing and perform.”

Brindisi grew up in town and graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 2006. She continued her studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, fine tuning her talents there and receiving a degree in music therapy.

“I consider myself a lifelong resident of New England, since each place I’ve lived holds a special place in my heart and has been pivotal in my career and journey,” she said.

When asked what her reaction was when she found out she had the opportunity to try out for season 22 of “The Voice,” Brindisi shared that she felt “ecstatic but also nervous.”

“I always wondered what would happen if I just tried,” she said. “The ‘what if’ was always in the back of my mind. To finally make it to a point where I could audition in front of the coaches was like a longtime dream come true, but with that dream came much higher stakes than anything I’ve ever done in the past. Once I received that good news, I really had to mentally and emotionally prepare for that audition.”

Brindisi secured a spot on Team Gwen by singing “All Too Well” by Taylor Swift for her blind audition, aired Sept. 26. While her fate on the show remains to be seen, she is enjoying the overall experience and soaking it all in.

“ ‘The Voice’ is all about learning and growing as a performer,” she said. “I am amongst other likeminded people in that way, and that is another special aspect of this show. Even though it’s a competition, there is so much talent around you to become refreshed and inspired as a vocalist in all new ways. Making friends on this journey has been so special.”

According to a press release, Brindisi works as a board-certified music therapist for those in hospice care for people with Alzheimer’s as well as individuals living with cerebral palsy and Down Syndrome. She was inspired to pursue music therapy after seeing the power music had with her grandfather, who had Alzheimer’s. His memory of lyrics and song, combined with her grandmother’s emotion in that moment, was enough to prove to her that music can truly help people.

During college, she met a guy, and by their late 20s they were engaged. Soon after buying a home and just before the wedding, everything fell apart and they went their separate ways. However, she created a new plan for her life that was propelled by selling her home, taking her dog, Lula, on a cross-country road trip, writing songs, and finding a new sense of independence.

“Even though I have been performing on stage since I was very young, I’ve been able to learn so much about performing for a television audience,” Brindisi said of her experience on “The Voice.” “It has a lot of similarities but also a significant amount of differences. Hair, makeup, wardrobe, cameras, lighting, production crew — there is so much that goes into one episode, and it’s really incredible to be witness to.

“I have also learned that stepping out of your comfort zone only makes you better,” she continued. “Even if the nerves and risk are higher, the reward is so much sweeter. There is so much to learn from the coaches, ‘The Voice’ team, the fellow contestants, and peers, that it’s helping me further develop my artistry and my voice.”

Brindisi will continue performing all over New England while “The Voice” is airing, including a recent gig at the Johnny Appleseed Festival in Leominster last month.
