{"id":40749,"date":"2022-09-29T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelandmark.com\/?p=40749"},"modified":"2022-09-29T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T10:00:00","slug":"local-residents-to-take-part-in-jimmy-fund-walk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devcherryroad.com\/news2\/2022\/09\/29\/local-residents-to-take-part-in-jimmy-fund-walk\/","title":{"rendered":"Local residents to take part in Jimmy Fund Walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"byline\"><b>Community Content<\/b><\/div>\n<p>WACHUSETT \u2014 The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai is slated for Sunday, Oct. 2.<\/p>\n<p>Some 36 local residents are registered to take part in the iconic annual event that will unite the community to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric care and cancer research at the nation\u2019s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $155 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in its 33-year history.<\/p>\n<p>From Holden, Jill Harding, Kaylie Collins, Lexi Collins, Donna Stone, Susan Hudson, Janell Collins, Lucas Fritsche, Sydney Collins, Mike Burlas, Maureen Mullins, and six more residents will walk.<\/p>\n<p>Ten Paxton residents will participate: Mark Savasta, Michael Bastien, Lauren Delgado, Brooke Bastien, Rachel Stringer-Grimsley, Heather Pagan, Josue Delgado, Jaclyn Bastien, Blake Bastien and Mary Bastien.<\/p>\n<p>Seven Rutland residents have signed on to walk: Blake Colombie, Kathy Mayo, JoAnne Bedard, Charlene LaPointe, Jennifer McCann, Nicholas Monaco and Robin Tarani.<\/p>\n<p>Three residents from Sterling will participate as well: Kevin Bourinot, Connor Casey and Neil Casey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout the past 33 years, the Jimmy Fund Walk has continuously supported life-saving research and cancer care at Dana-Farber. And the pandemic didn\u2019t stop us,\u201d said Zack Blackburn, Director of the Jimmy Fund Walk. \u201cOver the past two years, participants walked virtually and celebrated in their own unique ways. Now, we welcome them to walk the course in person. We are back, we are together, and we are stronger than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participants have the flexibility to choose from four distance options: 5K Walk (3.1 miles from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), 10K Walk (6.2 miles from Newton), Half Marathon Walk (13.1 miles from Wellesley), or Marathon Walk (26.2 miles from Hopkinton). Participants can also choose to join the event virtually by \u201c <i>walking their way\u201d <\/i>from wherever they are most comfortable\u2014in their neighborhood, on a favorite hiking trail, or on a treadmill at home. Virtual programming and supporting materials are available.<\/p>\n<p>Along the course, walkers are treated to 12 refueling stations as well as poster-size photographs of patients \u2014 Jimmy Fund Walk Heroes \u2014 displayed at each mile and half-mile marker as inspiration.
