HOLDEN — The Wachusett Area Chamber of Commerce will offer up to two $2,500 scholarships this year to qualified graduating seniors living in the Wachusett area. To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be planning to pursue business studies as full-time students at a two- or four-year college and reside in one of the chamber’s service area towns, which include: Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston. Applicants with exceptional community service may also be considered for the Brian R. Forts Memorial Scholarship, which comes with an additional award.

La Romana team prepares for annual mission trip to Dominican Republic

STERLING — The First Church in Sterling La Romana team is busy preparing for its annual mission trip to the Dominican Republic next month, the 28th time they have headed south to provide medical services and supplies, construction aid and more to the Haitian sugarcane workers and their families who live there.

Offense and defense together make Chaisson a valuable contributor

HOLDEN — A two-way basketball player is defined as a player who can proficiently play both offense and defense. They are sometimes referred to as “double trouble” because of their role in handling the offensive pressure while simultaneously preventing the other team from scoring. Players lacking the kind of talent and tenaciousness necessary for this role need not apply.

Once again, for the 28th year, the committee is seeking nominations for this community- based, nonpartisan award.
