PAXTON — The Paxton Woman’s Club is offering two $1,000 scholarships for graduating Paxton high school seniors. An applicant must be a Paxton resident, must be a high school senior graduating this year, and must be pursuing their education at a college or an institute of higher vocational training.

Characters hang their coats at Rutland library

RUTLAND — As if designating by design, the hooks are ready for coats. Young patrons at the Rutland Free Public Library now have a colorful, artful coat area, where a Rutland artist turned simple coat hooks into art with a splash of color.

In like a lion or a lamb?

The old adage about March — “In like a lion and out like a lamb” — wasn’t looking as if it would hold up this year. Many students and friends have commented to me that they have enjoyed the warm winter so far, but hope we do not pay for it in March and April. March is a transition month, thus the adage of lion to lamb.

WRHS girls’ basketball sinks Springfield Central

HOLDEN—Inyears gone by, the Golden Eagles of Springfield Central High have not been kind to your Wachusett Regional High girls’ basketball team. A season ago, the Golden Eagles derailed the Mountaineers’ bid for a Division 1 state title by defeating the green and white, 4536, on their way to a state championship.

HOLDEN — The Holden Woman’s Club is seeking nominations for its annual Person of the Year award. Nominees should be a Holden resident from any walk of life, any age or gender. Previous recipients have included community volunteers, local business owners, town employees and teachers. All have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in Holden. White Oak land gets conservation restriction

HOLDEN — A Conservation Restriction from the White Oak Land Conservation Society for over 100 acres of open space off Salisbury Street was approved by selectmen at their March 6 meeting. “The town will hold a conservation restriction on that so it will never be developed,” Scott Morrison of White Oaks said.
