HOLDEN — Veterans from Holden and Rutland were recently the special guests of Holden Grange. Nineteen veterans were recognized by the branch in which they served and were presented with certificates of appreciation. Lynette Gabrila, Director of Veterans Services for the Wachusett district, including Ashburnham, Ashby, Gardner, Princeton and Westminster, spoke about the dedicated service of the veterans and the benefits available to them.

Holden man accused of arson, attempted murder

LEOMINSTER — A Holden man is accused of threatening to kill his aunt and setting her garage on fire in what authorities are calling a case of arson after a fire last week. Evan Kelley, 32, of Holden was arraigned Wednesday, June 7, in Leominster District Court on charges of arson, attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a plate), assault and battery on a person over the age of 60, threatening to commit a crime (murder) and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.

Summer music lessons HOLDEN — Registration for summer music lessons is now open at the Wachusett Regional High School AIR (Artist-In-Residence) Program, offering music instruction for a variety of instruments and voice. Students and adults may sign up for private, half-hour lessons scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of each week beginning July 11 through Aug.

Holden library’s Summer Reading program returns

HOLDEN — Every summer brings vacations, sunshine and the Gale Free Kids Summer Reading Program, which itself brings a vacation into the world of books. The eight-week program, however, includes “a schedule of performances, crafts, and story times to entice families to check in every week and keep their kids reading through the summer,” according to Kevin McDonough, head children’s librarian.

HOLDEN — The Wachusett Regional High School varsity baseball team’s bid for advancement in the MIAA Division 1 state tournament fell short with a 3-1 first-round loss to visiting Walpole High on June 5. Wachusett, ranked 16th overall, concluded its season with a record of 12-9, and now sets its sights on a bounceback in 2024.
