Candidate endorsement: Long-Bellil brings sound, thoughtful approach

Please elect Linda Long-Bellil to the Holden Select Board on May 13. I have known Linda for 15 years, and value the sound and thoughtful approach she takes to decision-making, both personally and professionally. Holden needs a Select Board member like Linda who will listen to, respond to, and provide requested information to all constituents.

As a nine-year member of the WRSD Committee, Linda brings strong commitment and knowledge of our community’s needs. She will be a necessary bridge between town and schools as critical decisions are made about supporting the educational needs of our children.

As an advocate for young families, Linda will support the continued upgrades to Holden’s public recreation facilities and programs so that children of all abilities may enjoy them, and will also look into the feasibility of creating a sliding-fee scale so that all youth may access town programs that charge a fee.

Linda is committed to our senior residents, and will work to update the guidelines that provide property tax relief programs to older homeowners. She will work to ensure that seniors can remain in their homes and Holden without financial hardship, and to identify changes to our local property tax laws that will give seniors some relief.

The Select Board must be transparent in its discussions and decisions. Linda is honest and upfront with her positions on issues. No longer will Holden residents wait more than six months to review meeting minutes and board decisions. Unlike the incumbents for re-election, Linda will ensure that the Board votes on, approves and posts all their public meeting minutes within timeframes recommended by the MA Open Meeting Law.

Let’s move Holden into a positive and strong future by electing Linda Long-Bellil and Aidan Slaten to Select Board, Lauren Salmon-Garrett to the WRSD Committee and Alan Degutis and Richard Maurer as Trustees of the Damon Memorial Library.
