While the overall results were not a surprise, locally as well as nationally, the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary in Massachusetts was a chance to see how many people turned out to participate, ultimately opting for a Trump vs Biden result.
Massachusetts voters agreed with voters in most of the other 14 states in which people voted March 5, with only Vermont in the win column for Nikki Haley, who dropped out of the race March 6.
The results affirmed the November match-up will almost certainly be between President Joe Biden and the former president he defeated to win the White House, Donald Trump.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden was the overwhelming winner.
Trump won over then-challenger Nikki Haley, giving Republican voters a more interesting ballot decision.
Massachusetts will add its 40 GOP delegates, all awarded to the winner, Trump, who garnered 60% of the Republican vote.
Trump now has 995 delegates. Haley retired from the race with 89; 1,215 are needed to secure the nomination.
Seven candidates were on the GOP ballot, but the only real contest was between Trump and Haley. Also on the Republican ballot were Ryan Binkley, Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, Asa Hutchinson and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Biden shared Democratic ballot space with Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson. Biden tallied 83% of the statewide vote in the party primary.
There was also a primary for the Libertarian party, with Jacob Hornberger, Michael Rectenwald, Chase Oliver, Michael Ter Maat, and Lars Mapstead on the ballot.
The slates meant town clerks had to be aware of all the numbers in case outliers won votes. Mickey Mouse, a perennial protest write-in, does not get his votes counted; neither does Minnie.
