Crowley family receives SBA award

PRINCETON — Wachusett Mountain Associates Inc. recently was presented with a legacy business award in honor of the U.S. Small Business Association’s 70th anniversary.

The award is one of 68 presented nationwide this year to mark the SBA occasion. The multigenerational Crowley family owned and operated Wachusett Mountain ski resort used SBA assistance to get financing in 1982 for the mountain’s first major expansion and the construction of its base lodge.

SBA Massachusetts District Director Bob Nelson presented several members of the Crowley family with the award at a ceremony held at the end of August. U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern and State Rep. Kim Ferguson were on hand for the occasion.

Wachusett Mountain President and CEO Jeff Crowley recently said that it means a lot to his family “to be honored with this award.”

“The dream and the vision of our founder, Ralph Crowley, would not have been possible without the early support of the small business loan from the SBA, and it just goes to show that investing in small businesses means investing in the community.”

Crowley said that they found out over the summer, through a conversation with Nelson, that they would be receiving the award.

“We just feel so happy to be able to continue to provide winter recreation and fun to our fellow community members,” Crowley conveyed. “Winning this award makes us want to continue the legacy into the third and eventually fourth generations.”
