Old Burial Ground rededication, lemonade social

RUTLAND — The Rutland Historical Society is holding two events this week that didn’t make it into Goings On.

The first is Old Burial Ground rededication ceremony and celebration of an Eagle Scout project, which will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Old Burial Ground, next to the library.

Join RHS to celebrate the completion of the restoration of many of the cemetery’s gravestones plus the completion of an Eagle Scout project enhancing the entrance to the Old Burial Ground. The restoration was made possible by the family of Helen F. Viner. As his Eagle Scout project, Sumner J. Jordan rebuilt the entrance to the burial ground.

Special guests include members of the Viner family, the Jordan family, Boy Scout leaders and Massachusetts Rural Affairs Director Anne Gobi.

The second event is the annual Lemonade Social and Open House, slated for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Wood House. This annual event kicks off Rutland’s Grand Fourth of July festivities. Stop by Saturday afternoon and enjoy some cookies and lemonade, then browse the vast collections of Rutland memorabilia, taking special note of the seasonal old-fashioned summer exhibit.
