Wilby for reelection to Bay Path committee

Name, town: Robert (Bob) Wilby, Paxton

Position sought: Representative to the Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School Committee My name is Robert (Bob )Wilby, and I am running for re-election to the Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School Committee.

Bay Path lives within its budget and provides a wonderful educational experience, both academic and vocational. I want to return to the committee to help maintain the school’s high standards.

During my 18 years, I have served two years as committee chair. During the renovations to the school, I served as the vice chair to raise the funds and to encourage all 10 towns to approve the project.

I have served many years as chair of the subcommittee for buildings and grounds.

We are presently working with the school administration to solve some space concerns in three shops.

I truly care about the education of our future. During the COVID-19 school closure, I spoke out about closing school. I wrote two letters each to the governor and secretary of Mass. education expressing concerns that we were hurting our kids. I received no replies.

Each year for several years, I have accompanied the Bay Path Guidance Department member as they introduced Bay Path education to seventh- and eighth-grade classes. Paxton has 35 students attending Bay Path in all four grades this year.

For the past 15 years, I have volunteered my time to SKILLS USA, helping with regional exam procedure, judging at state and national competitions. It has been amazing to see 16,000 vocational students from all over our country competing in more than 100 vocational skills.

Just recently, with help from two great Bay Path teachers as advisers, we chartered a new LEO Club (junior Lions Club) to promote community service.

I love serving on the Bay Path School Committee and witnessing these high school students get a proper education that will serve them well in their future.

In Paxton, I also serve on town committees and organizations, 49 years as a Lion, organizing and running day bus trips for the area seniors for the past 13 years. I also serve on the DPW Barn Improvement Committee, and as treasurer of the Friends of the Council on Aging. I am a member of the Paxton Day committee and a leader of the veterans group at the COA.

Voters of Paxton, please vote May 8 to re-elect me to the Southern Worcester County Regional Vocational School Committee. Thank you.
