PRINCETON – The three young owners of Rattle Root Farm had the opportunity to showcase their agricultural efforts during an open house held at the Mirick Road spot on Oct. 22.
Town residents, friends and business partners Peter Herceg, Joey Hersh and Hannah Romig launched their 1 acre, no-till hand scale organic farm earlier this year, and are seeing the fruits of their labor. They have been hard at work creating permanent raised beds, building two greenhouses, and planting plenty of pollinator friendly plants and vegetables.
In addition, they will be launching a Community Supported Agriculture program, or CSA, next year that they plan to make an annual program. CSAs enable community members to sign up to pick up fresh, nutrient dense vegetables every week from June through late October.
Dozens of people stopped by the farm during the open house, which Hersh said “was great.”
“It was an awesome opportunity to meet a lot of neighbors and community members who had been following our progress over the last several months,” he said.
The trio of Clark University alums is already looking ahead to next year’s growing season.
“All of the hard work from this year is beginning to show, and everything is looking more distinctly like a farm every day,” Hersh said.
He went on to say that they were excited to “convey some of our farming practices, such as the importance of planting different cover crops” at the open house and answer questions about the upcoming CSA.
Hersh said they plan to do more open houses in the spring and beyond, as well as host volunteer days and educational workshops. For more information on this and more, including signing up for the CSA, visit www.rattlerootfarm. com and follow Rattle Root Farm on Facebook and Instagram.
