WORCESTER — The College of the Holy Cross celebrated nearly 762 bachelor of arts degree recipients at its 177th Commencement, held in person on Friday, May 26, at the DCU Center in Worcester. U.S. Sen. Peter Welch ‘69 of Vermont, a Class of 1969 alumnus, delivered this year’s address to the Class of 2023 and received an honorary degree.
Vincent D. Rougeau, president of the college, presided over the celebratory event, bestowing the honorary degrees and greeting each graduate as they crossed the stage.
The following local students earned degrees: Ebi Aliko, magna cum laude; Gillian Ballantine, cum laude; Eric Espino; James Gould; Rachel Perry; and Katherine Quinn, all of Holden. Serey Kremer of Princeton and Michael Hryniewich of Sterling.
Clark Univ. graduates
WORCESTER — Clark University awarded 1,300 degrees (590 bachelor’s, 681 master’s, and 29 doctoral degrees) to the class of 2023 and conferred three honorary degrees during its 119th commencement ceremonies on May 21. Speakers heralded the graduates for their accomplishments, and the resilience and ambition they exhibited when their college experience was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friend, summa cum laude, BA with highest honors in history, member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society; Tristan John DeMacedo, magna cum laude, BA in interactive media; Alex E. Springfield College dean’s list SPRINGFIELD — Springfield College recognizes the following local students for being named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the 2023 spring semester:

For selection to the dean’s list, the student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of “P” grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.500 for the term.
American International College dean’s list
SPRINGFIELD — Graciana Drakes of Holden, a health science major, has earned dean’s list honors at American International College (AIC) for the spring 2023 semester. Dean’s list honors are awarded to full-time students who have achieved a 3.3 to 4.0 GPA.
Lasell Univ. dean’s list
NEWTON — The spring 2023 dean’s list at Lasell University includes students who have completed at least 12 credits as a full-time student in that semester and have achieved a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. The list includes local students Madeline Leung of Holden and Jamie Quinn of Rutland.
Quinn presents at Lasell symposium
NEWTON — Jamie Quinn, a Lasell University student from Rutland, participated in the institution’s annual Connected Learning Symposium in April. Each presentation demonstrates a particular set of core career competencies listed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as being in high demand in the workforce.
Quinn was featured in “Fresh Thoughts,” a yearly publication of top student essays from Lasell’s introductory writing course selected by a panel of faculty judges.
