PRINCETON – Voters faced a ballot with no contests in the May 8 election, but three questions restricting marijuana cultivation, processing and manufacturing were decided.

All three questions passed, prohibiting commercial cultivation, processing and/or manufacturing of marijuana in Residential-Agricultural districts and Business districts (Question One, passed 246 to 88), and in the Business-Industrial District (Question Two, passed 231 to 111); and regulating indoor commercial cultivation, processing and manufacturing of marijuana only for “medical purposes” in the Business-Industrial District (Question Three, passed 225 to 115).

The questions followed votes at the May 2022 annual town meeting, which needed follow-up votes at the town election to put the restrictions in place.

Officials elected were Philip Gott (298 votes) to the three-year seat on the Select Board; Helen Townsend (301) to the three-year seat on the Assessors; Laurie Kraemer (300) to the two-year seat on the Assessors; Richard Rys Jr. (288) for the three-year seat on the Electric Light Commission; Ian Catlow (289) and John Mirick (287) for the three-year seats on the Planning Board; and Harry Pape (312) to the one-year position of Town Moderator.

With 343 votes cast, 11% of the town’s 3,074 registered voters participated in the democratic election process, according to the town clerk’s unofficial results reported.
