RUTLAND It’s official: Austin Cyganiewicz has taken the reins as Rutland’s new town administrator.
The Select Board April 3 followed up its earlier selection for the position and voted to sign the contract, with Cyganiewicz starting April 18.
“In the meantime, you’ll see me around,” Cyganiewicz said, noting he planned to attend the budget info sessions at the Rutland Free Library on April 16.
Regular sessions are planned at the library on the town budget to provide information for residents, running from 1 to 3 p.m. each Sunday until the Saturday, May 6, annual town meeting. At that legislative session, voters will decide the town budget. That could include an override vote that would then have to be approved at the annual town election on May 8.
“I am really excited,” Cyganiewicz said, noting that night was his last select board meeting in Acton, where he is leaving a position as director of intergovernmental affairs in the town manager’s office to take the Rutland post.
“I’m looking forward to this opportunity, looking forward to working with you,” he said. “This is a wonderful community. I couldn’t be prouder to have this wonderful opportunity.”
Select Board member Leah Whiteman said that Cyganiewicz was “easy to work with in negotiations. I appreciate that, so I have confidence going forward.”
“We’re excited to have you on board once we sign it,” Chairman Lyndon Nichols said of the threeyear contract, which calls for a $126,000 salary for the first year with 2% increases each year.
“Good luck,” Nichols said to laughs from the attendees. “He didn’t sign it yet,” Nichols noted at that point, but added, “It’s a good town, getting better.”
Cyganiewicz and Nichols then signed the contract, although it was not completely official until the clerk and town accountant signed it later in the week.
