STERLING — Six months into his job, Town Administrator Bill Caldwell got praise from the Select Board for how he is doing his work.
John Kilcoyne said at a recent meeting of the Select Board that he marked Caldwell mostly above average to excellent.
“I think we made an excellent decision with you Bill and I hope you feel the same way about Sterling,” Kilcoyne said.
“I love your interaction with staff across town,” Select Board Chairman Maureen Cranson said. “I love your ‘let’s get it done’ attitude.”
Select Board member David Smith echoed his fellow board members’ comments.
“The number one thing we ask ourselves when we hire someone is, ‘Are they a good fit?’ And, Bill is a good fit,” Smith said.
In other business:
• The tax rate was finalized at $14.30 per $1,000 valuation.
• The Select Board approved an agricultural conservation restriction for the Padula/Sterling Realty property at 146 North Row Road.
• An earth removal permit for 69 Leominster Road, the Amorello gravel pit, was approved. The property has been operating for 10 years when the company needs a small amount of natural gravel.
“Otherwise, it sits quietly,” company representative Raymond Davis said.
