EDC now a full board in Paxton

PAXTON — The Economic Development Committee is now in place with members appointed by the Select Board at its Nov. 18 meeting.

The committee includes four town business owners (Darlene Walsh of Ten West Market, Mike Roberts of Paxton Sports Center, Caitlin Cournoyer of Cournoyer Vegetable Farm and homebased business owner Lisa Davenock); two residents ( Savvas Kosmidis and Alexia Kodra); and three nonvoting members (Planning Board member Robert Pelczarski, Finance Committee member Steven Rebesco and Town Administrator Heather Munroe).

The Records Building, a historic repository built for town records in 1899, will get a new roof. The board approved the $2,500 bid for the work.

Munroe said there were quite a few inquiries for the project as well as two other projects the Parks and Recreation Commission put out to bid. But the Commission opted to hold off on the other two when bids came in substantially higher than expected, she said.

The Records Building work was only slightly higher than anticipated and will be done by Dicky Matos Roofing Inc. of Holyoke. Munroe said there was talk some residents might contribute to the costs as well.

The board also worked on some policies, including discussing ensuring that funds from surplus items sold off would be used for the benefit of the department that retired an item. The Select Board also looked at using the training room at the Public Safety Center for Select Board meetings, and possibly other boards in the future, with the larger venue being put to that use as early as January. Any use would be secondary to any town need for the training room, such as using it as a command center during an emergency.
