Holden sets ribbon cutting for new DPW facility

HOLDEN — After investing roughly $20 million to build a new Public Works Facility, the building is ready.

The grand opening event is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the 18 Industrial Drive site.

The Holden Public Works Department will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will include comments from Holden Town Manager Peter Lukes, DPW Facility Building Committee Chairman Dan Nason, Holden Board of Selectmen Chairman Anthony Renzoni, state Rep. Kimberly Ferguson, state Sen. Anne Gobi, and Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis.

The $20 million, newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility will be open to the public for the first time upon completion of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and visitors are invited to tour the complex, Lukes said.

The facility replaces the old DPW site on Adams Road, providing space to keep equipment inside and out of New England weather, facilities to work on equipment, and space for staff.

The project was originally expected to be completed in the spring, after taking advantage of going out to bid at a favorable time to reduce costs. However, supply chain issues delayed things, from waiting on materials to paint.
